Achievements

An article by Alice Marie Villaseńor, associate director of the Civic and Community Engagement Office, is featured in the winter 2022 issue of Persuasions: The Jane Austen Journal On-Line 43 (1). The article, “From Prada to Nada: Displaced Dashwood Sisters in Los Angeles,” examines the ways in which a 2011 film uses the story of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility to highlight issues facing Latin American communities in Los Angeles.

The article is based on a presentation that Dr. Villaseńor gave at the 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Jane Austen Society of North America, held in Victoria, British Columbia, September 30–October 2.
