Mathematics Seminar in Number Theory

Posted:

Konstantine Zelator, senior lecturer in mathematics at the University of Wisconsin-Marinette, will present a seminar in number theory, "Sums of Squares Whose Bases Are Consecutive Terms of an Arithmetic Progression," on Friday, March 21, at 3:00 p.m. in Ketchum Hall 113.

Abstract
The main result of this work can be stated as follows: Let p be a prime, p = 3, or p = 5 or 7 (mod 12). Then the sum of the squares of any p positive integers, which are consecutive terms of an arithmetic progression, is a non-perfect square. The article that contains this result is published in www.arxiv.org (arX- iv:1311.6484 [math.GM]).
