Please join the Physics Department for the lecture "The Amazing Constants of the Universe" on Thursday, February 22, at 12:30 p.m. in Science and Mathematics Complex 169. The universe is unlikely. Very unlikely. Martin Rees, Britain’s royal astronomer, says that if any of a handful of fundamental constants of the universe were different, “even to the tiniest degree, there would be no stars, no complex elements, no life.” David Ettestad, associate professor of physics, will present these constants and explain why they must be so fine-tuned for life to exist.
